Obituary: Larry Eugene Lammers (Nov. 22, 1939 – Jan. 5, 2014)

Larry Eugene Lammers passed away at his home on January 5, 2014, in Crescent City. Larry was born November 22, 1939, in Greeley, Colo., to Al Lammers and Beatrice (Elston) Lammers. Larry attended grade schools in Oregon, Hoopa, Patrick’s Point, and Pine Grove and Crescent Elk in Crescent City. He attended Del Norte High School 1953-1958, excelling in wrestling and football.

After graduating from High School, he attended Shasta Junior College, where he studied Administration of Justice, graduating with an AA Degree. March 5, 1961, he married Wanda Tuggle, and later joined the Del Norte County Sheriff’s Department. His first duty station was the old Del Norte County Jail, now museum, located on H Street in Crescent City. Larry served five County Sheriffs as a Deputy Sheriff-Coroner, and later as Evidence Technician. He also worked for the District Attorney’s Office as the DA’s Investigator. Larry retired from the Del Norte County Sheriff’s Department in 1990. Larry was a member of the Masonic Crescent City Lodge #45. In March of 2012, he was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. 

Larry was preceded in death by his parents Al and Bea Lammers. He is survived by his son Allen (Sharon) Lammers, daughter Robin (Victor) Eyre, grandchildren Rebecca, Larry and Robin, and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Kathleen (John) Melvin, Joyce (David) Knapp, two nephews, two nieces and many grand-nieces and -nephews.
