Crescent City Police are investigating a stabbing that occurred Tuesday evening.

Around 11:20 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of 7th and E streets on a report of a physical dispute, Police Sgt. Erik Apperson said.

“When our officers arrived there was nobody around,” said Apperson. “One of the investigating officers found a blood trail that led to a nearby residence.”

Officers contacted the occupants and found a man with a stab wound to one of his legs, Apperson said.

The victim, identified as Domonique Gonzales, 37, was uncooperative with police, but it was determined Gonzales knew the attacker, Apperson said.

“It’s one of those investigations where we’re hindered by the lack of cooperation by the victim, who is our main witness,” said Apperson. “It’s unfortunate because the person who perpetrated this crime isn’t just affecting the individual. This is a public crime and we’re obviously interested in prosecution being brought forth.”

Gonzales was treated and released from Sutter Coast Hospital.

Officers do have some information and are continuing the investigation. Anyone with information about the stabbing is asked to contact the Police Department at 464-2135.
