For the first time since the 2010-11 basketball season, the Del Norte boys are headed to the postseason. The Warriors finished in third place in the Humboldt-Del Norte Big 5 with a 4-4 record in league play.

Del Norte will travel south to Eureka, which finished second in the H-DN Big 5 regular season, for their first-round game scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m.

The Warriors split a pair of games against the Loggers in the regular season. Del Norte won the first match up 53-33 thanks to a hot shooting second half that allowed the Warriors to pull away.

In the second game of the series, played in Eureka, the Loggers jumped out to an early lead in the first half. In the second half, the Warriors battled back, closing the gap to two points. Del Norte had four straight possessions at the end of the game with an opportunity to either tie the game or take the lead, but Eureka was able to hold on for the 50-48 victory.

Eureka is the tallest team in the conference this season and holds at least a 4-10 inch high advantage over the Warriors at every position but point guard. Del Norte has been able to counter the Loggers’ height with quickness and working to deny the ball to Eureka’s posts.
