Joanne “Kay” Bateman, 76, passed peacefully on March 8, 2014, at home in South Carolina, where she lived with her youngest daughter, her son-in-law and her “lovely” doggie, Ernie.

A career nurse and a self-professed “good ol’ gal that wasn’t afraid to have a little fun,” she loved to dig in the dirt, collect antiques, play hard and drive fast. She also loved nature, color and art and all things beautiful; but most of all, she loved her children.

She is survived by daughters Cheryl Gross of Grants Pass, Ore., and Gail Eberhard and son-in-law John Eberhard of Little River, S.C.; grandchildren Evan and Emily Gross; sisters Melinda Thompson and Debra Woods; and first husband Bob Bateman of Grants Pass, Ore. She was preceded in death by her father, Harry Bienick; mother, Phyllis Bienick; and sisters Diane Olson and Bonnie Warren, all of Crescent City.
