The Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office assisted Redding Police in the Tuesday apprehension of a suspect in a Redding robbery case.

Deputies Carl Berry and Robert Clarkson were given information by Redding Police indicating that Christopher Brian Couts, 22, was in Del Norte, according to sheriff’s Commander Tim Athey.

Berry and Clarkson checked out the tip and found Couts walking down Old Mill Road near Northcrest Avenue, Athey said.

Couts is currently being held without bail on a stolen vehicle charge.

Del Norte Sheriff Dean Wilson said Couts was suspected of participating in a robbery in which a group of people attacked an attorney in Redding.

They stole the attorney’s bank card and tortured him for his PIN number and cleaned out the account, Wilson said.
