Tall ships here after heavy surf delay

Rough ocean conditions delayed the Crescent City arrival of the tall ships Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain, causing Wednesday’s planned “evening sail” to be rescheduled for Friday.

The tall ships had been scheduled to arrive Monday, but the U.S. Coast Guard closed the Humboldt Bay bar due to heavy surf, preventing the ships from leaving Eureka until early Tuesday morning,  according to tall ships representative Joe Follansbee.

The replicas of historic tall ships, operated by the Grays Harbor Historical Seaport Authority, based in Aberdeen, Wash., will be in Crescent City Harbor through Monday.
