The Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man suspected of using counterfeit bills on Wednesday.

Sheriff’s deputies visited the 700 block of Vipond Drive looking for Drew Roberts, 50, of Crescent City on a warrant for driving under the influence and a civil warrant. Deputies found and arrested Roberts at the house, sheriff’s Commander Tim Athey said.

Deputies also arrested Keith Hulford, who had recently been identified as a suspect in using counterfeit bills at the Lucky 7 Casino, Athey said. The casino identified the counterfeit bills and the Sheriff’s Office pulled the tapes from the casino in order to identify Hulford, according to Athey.

Roberts was previously arrested at the same location on Vipond Drive on March 7 on suspicion of possessing counterfeit bills and running a counterfeit lab out of the residence.

Counterfeit bills with denominations as high as $100 have been popping up around Del Norte and Curry counties over the past few months, according to sheriff’s logs.

Athey said the investigation into counterfeit bills in the area is on-going.
