Del Norte Youth Wrestling wraps up season with REWA Championship

 The Del Norte Youth Wrestling program wrapped up its 2014 season with the Redwood Empire Wrestling Associated League Championship Tournament team championship in McKinleyville on Saturday.

The Warriors dominated the tournament, winning every single bracket in which they had at least one wrestler entered.

Del Norte took 22 kids to the tournament and 19 finished in the top three.

Ta Tes Boulby, 14; Josh Eneim, 6; Eddie Hartwick, 9; Billy Lewis, 8; Thunder Lewis, 7; Wyatt Lewis, 5; Conner Long, 12; Robert Reyes-Villegas, 5; Zane Ridenour, 11; Colton Schaad, 6, and Kurtis Turner, 10, all won their respective age and weight brackets.

Brandon Charles, 10; James Gensaw, 7; Soren Lewis, 7; Aldaron Mcovey, 9, and Uthana Reyes-Villegas, 9, all took second place.

 The Warriors got third place finishes from Jace Bergman, 7; Sherrik Cron, 13, and Chace McCubbin, 4.

The Warriors had 43 kids wrestle for the youth program this year. In addition to the 19 placers at the REWA meet, Blake Allen, 11; Caeson Allen, 6; Kaiden Blake, 5; Anthony Devos, 7; Ronnie Evans, 8;  Kyle Evans, 7; Alexander Evans, 6; Thayallen Gensaw, 9; Tescha Gensaw, 6; George Jobbs, 15; Blake Larson, 7; Rogue Lewis, 4; Barbara Lewis, 6; Xyden Lo, 5; Brendan Lovaas, 10; Matthew Mattz, 9; Alexander Osborne, 6; Sebastian Puente, 12; Cameron Rylands, 12; Gianni Sandoval, 13; Avary Schaad, 9; Ryker Schaad, 7; Mauricio Valdez, 4, and Brayden Teague, 13, all wrestled for Del Norte at some point this season.

The REWA tournament marks the official end of the season for Del Norte Youth Wrestling. In 2014 the Warriors won first place as a team at almost every tournament that kept track of team scores this year.

While team activities are at an end, some of the young grapplers will continue to train as they prepare for the state tournament which will take place in June.
