Warrior Memories: Eckart is a special coach for Warrior girls

As a very avid Warrior fan of all Del Norte High School activities I look forward to the start of the 2014 school year and the many fun things that take place. One fall sport that I don’t get to watch but love to hear about is girls golf.

While many might say I favor football, I am the father of two girls, so girls continue to have a special place in my heart. The Warrior girls golf team is coached by the type of coach that all parents hope for. Allison Eckart is that special person. Allison is an English teacher at the high school.

Beside being an outstanding teacher and golf coach, she at times has served as activities director for the Warriors. This a very time consuming position, but her enthusiasm for Del Norte students never seems to run dry. She has that special ability to connect with teenagers and get the best out of them.

Allison graduated from high school in Sacramento where she played volleyball and softball.

After graduating high school she went to Humboldt State University where she obtained her teaching credentials. After teaching for a year in Japan she returned to the U.S. and in 1996 took a teaching job here in Del Norte, where she says she fell in love with teaching.

I asked Allison how she got into golf and she blames Jim Costello, former Warrior football and girls golf coach. In talking with Jim about  how this happened he said he saw her playing golf with friends and knowing what a special teacher she is, he talked her into taking over the golf position.

She gave up her position for a time to become a mother but now that her daughter is a little older she is back at it. I know as a former athletic director how great it is when you get a coach with the character and personality of an Allison Eckart.

Allison and her husband are the parents of a  beautiful daughter, Alexandra, who can steal your heart with her smile. The Warrior girls golf team and Warrior fans can look forward to another great year with Mrs. Eckart. She is a special person.
