The Del Norte County Sheriff’s Department is requesting the public’s assistance in locating a suspect wanted for assault and battery, robbery and vehicle theft.

Michael Clary Jr., 26, of Crescent City is accused of assaulting Jeffrey Haile, 42, on Friday shortly before 6 p.m. at Union Ave. and Iowa St. in the area commonly referred to as the “Ruth Compound,” Sheriff Dean Wilson said.

Wilson said that upon deputies’ arrival, Haile looked as though he
had been beaten, with blood on his face and nose. He was transported to Sutter Coast Hospital for treatment.

Haile, who knew Clary Jr. at the time of the assault, also reported that his wallet and his 1994 Dodge Ram pickup truck were taken before Clary fled the scene.

Haile’s pickup truck was recovered on Saturday.

“One of our newest deputies, Adam Daniels, had located the truck (at the Ruth
Compound),” Wilson said. “When he approached the vehicle, he saw Clary in the vehicle. Daniels ordered him out of the car, but Clary fled on foot and Daniels was unable to locate him.”

Wilson warns the public not to approach Clary Jr., who is described as a 26-year-old white male with black hair and green eyes, and to call the Sheriff’s Office at 464-4191 ext. 221 or dial 911 with information about his whereabouts.
