John Richard "J.R." Coleman, of Crescent City, passed away Aug. 13, 2008, at his home following a two-decade battle with cancer. He was 81.

J.R. worked as an aircraft inspector for 28 years on the East and West coasts. He was also a pilot.

He vacationed in California, fell in love with the state and moved to Venice, where he lived until moving to Crescent City in 2004.
