Obituaries: Everett Floyd Hawkins(1920-2008)

Everett Floyd Hawkins, 88, passed away July 8, 2008, in Medford, Ore. He was born Feb. 21, 1920, in Filer, Idaho, the son of Lancelot and Florence Hawkins.

Everett served his country in World War II with the U.S. Army in the North African and Italian campaigns with the 91st division. He was wounded in action and decorated with the good conduct ribbon, the combat infantry badge, the purple heart, and the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with two bronze stars.

After the war Everett returned to Oregon, where he met his wife Doris (Varner). They were married Sept. 28, 1947, in Reno, Nev. They moved to Crescent City, where Everett worked in the lumber industry until his retirement in 1981.

Everett was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans and American Legion. He served his fellow veterans in the veterans service office in Crescent City.

Everett was proceeded in death by his parents and one daughter, Donna Melissa Hawkins.

He is survived by his wife Doris Hawkins, Medford; sister Ethel Reynolds, Grants Pass, Ore.; daughter Anita Nastiuk, Medford; three grandchildren Terrance Earl Flagler Jr. Tacoma, Wash., Matthew Lee Hawkins, Crescent City, and Kailene Elise Nastiuk, Medford; and three great-grandsons Anthony, Gerry and Evan.

Arrangements have been made through Conger-Morris, Medford. Services will be at the Veterans National Cemetery in Eagle Point, Ore., on Monday 14 at 10 a.m.
