Mary Theresa Sanborn, 83, died March 29, 2008, at her home in Gasquet after battling the effects of a stroke for 12 years.

She was born Oct. 20, 1924, to German immigrants Kasper and Katherine (Shanefeld) Mollendor, and was raised and educated in Nebraska and Colorado.

During WWII, she worked in a factory to support the war effort. Following the war, she married Maurice Sanborn and lived in Colorado, Arizona and California, where she was a homemaker and raised her children.

After moving to Del Norte County in the early 1990s, she worked for several years at Patrick Creek Lodge Restaurant as a cook. Mary was the family "nurse," and attended to family members and friends during times of illness and need. She often cooked and sent home-baked goods to others. She enjoyed gardening, and bowling, and was an avid fan of all Colorado sport teams, especially the Denver Broncos.

She liked to knit and quilt, and enjoyed being a member of a neighborhood quilting group. She loved being outdoors, and liked hiking and spending time on the beach.

Survivors include her son Darrell Sanborn of Stockton; daughter Pamela Sanborn of Gasquet; grandchildren Jim Segna of Gasquet and Gina Maze of Las Vegas; and great-grandchildren, Leo and Jed Segna, and Taelyn Maze.

She was preceded in death by her brothers Pete and Joe Mollendor; and sisters Kate Bertrand, Margie Green and Ann Haberkorn.

No services are planned. Arrangements are being handled by Redwood Memorial Care of Crescent City.
