The Del Norte boys tennis team features a good mixture of returners and newcomers.

The top 5 seeds consists of players who were part of last year's team, which finished with a 7-4 mark in HDNC play.

"It's nice," head coach Kirk Olesen said. "We should be competitive this year. We have a solid team."

Olesen said its always nice to have veterans players returning. The No.1 seeded player is returners Blake Polidore, No. 2 is David Standring. Joel Bruhns is No.3, while Tyler Pitman is No.4 and Ben Tell is at No. 5.

"It's always nice to have a lot of seniors on the team," he said. "It's great to have that experience."

Olesen said at this time, the No.6 seed will be filled by senior Chris Sanchez, who did not play last year.

Olesen said he already has shown good ability and should be a key part of the group.

The final spot on the traveling team is expected to be filled by freshman Brandon Ford.

Olesen said he has already shown a lot of skill and potential.

Olesen said there is a total of 13 players on the team and said he they have all worked hard to get ready for the season.

The teams first game will be a challenge as they face Arcata, which has been the top team in the HDNC for many years.

Olesen said while Arcata lost five seniors, he expects the team to still be good this year.

The contest wa originally set for 3:30 p.m at Del Norte was moved an hour back to 2:30 p.m.
