Import-export survey seeks truck limits impact

Much has been made recently of the cost to the region's economy of not being accessible to large trucks due to some tight spots on U.S. Highway 199 and state Route 197.

Big trucks are also restricted along a stretch of U.S. Highway 101 at Richardson Grove south of Eureka, and the Economic Development Division of Humboldt County has posted two short surveys at www.northcoastprosperity.com to gather information regarding the economic impact of those trucking restrictions .

Business owners who import or export products to the North Coast are encouraged to take the survey. The Economic Development Division will use the information to inform the public, survey respondents and affiliated governmental agencies about impacts of current restrictions on local Humboldt and Del Norte businesses.

The survey aims to analyze the cost impact to businesses that are restricted by the remaining stretch of Highway 101 that is not approved for the big trucks under the Surface Transportation Assistance Act.
