Albert Bernard Burdick, a retired Accountant for Safeway Stores and manager of plywood companies, died on November 20, 2007. He was 93.

He was born on April 8, 1914 in a two-story log house built in the late 1880s by his greatgrandfather, a few miles from Kelso, Wash. His career began as a Certified Public Accountant and developed into a General Manager of plywood companies on the West Coast over a 21-year span (Harbor, Standard Veneer, NorCal, and Tri-State Plywood Cos.).

Later, he had an 11-year career at Safeway Stores, Inc. as world-wide traveling Internal Financial Auditor and as U.S. Financial Audit Manager. He was president of the Plywood Association, president of Northern California Log Scaling and Grading Bureau, and the American Forestry Association. He was appointed by Governor Goodwin Knight to a four-year term on the board of the 41st District Agriculture Association in Crescent City. He was the Financial Secretary of the Crescent City Knights of Columbus and, in Santa Clara, a member of the Chamber of Commerce, a Charter member of the Knights of Columbus and the Rotary.

Mr. Burdick leaves his wife of 72 years, Mary Celestia Pauline (ne Koetz); two sons Eugene Albert of Mesa, Ariz., and Bernard Joseph of Reading, Mass.; five grandsons and one granddaughter; one great grandson; and one sister, Gladyce Teresa Seward of Kelso, Wash. He was preceded in death by his parents and five younger siblings.

Memorial services will be held on Friday Dec. 28 at 10 a.m. at St. Bridget Catholic Church, 2213 N. Lindsay Rd. Mesa, Ariz.
