FORTUNA — The Del Norte High girls varsity team fell 52-29 to Anderson at a tournament in Fortuna on Thursday.

The loss drops the Warriors to 1-3 for the year. A first half in which the Warriors had 15 turnovers and missed several shots from only a few feet away from the basket contributed to the team being down 22-9 at the half, head coach Buzz McCulloch said.

A positive was the girls reduced their turnovers, committing only five in the second half, played better defense and were able to make more shots. "We played a lot better ball in the second half, but we just didn't have a good first half," McCulloch said.

While the season is still young, McCulloch said he and the team realize they need to keep working on a number of things.

Junior Krista Haban led the Warriors in scoring with seven points.

Junior Michelle Stacey had six points and sophomore Lauryn Lesina had five points for the Warriors.

Today, Del Norte will face the winner of Arcata versus Middletown. As of early Thursday evening, Arcata had a big first half lead and McCulloch believed they would be playing Middletown in the consolation bracket at 4 p.m. today.

The Warriors conclude the Fortuna tournament on Saturday.
