Thomas Leon Stringham died on November 28, 2007 in Bend, Ore.

He was born September 1, 1927 in Long Beach to Rosana May Holden and Ernest Granite Stringham.

Tom graduated from Needles High School in 1945. He enlisted in the Navy in the summer of 1945 and served aboard the U.S.S. Midway aircraft carrier in the Atlantic theater.

He met Patricia Ann Lindsay in August 1951, and they were married in Las Vegas four weeks later on September 22, 1951.

Tom owned and operated several service stations and restaurants before moving to the Crescent City area in 1975. He joined the Del Norte Unified School district and became the Transportation Supervisor in 1976; retiring in 1989.

He is survived by his wife Patricia and five children: Carrie Hurt and husband Jonathan Laidig; Laurie Lee and husband Elwood Butch Lee; Rex Stringham; Guy Stringham; Jeff Stringham and wife Tamara. He is also survived by his sister Jean McCord of Crescent City.

His 16 grandchildren, ranging in age from 3 to 33, are Jennifer, Joanna, Susan, Samuel, Paul, Michelle, Shauna, Rachel, David, Sarah, Zachary, Jeanne, Heather, Spencer, Trent and Landon.

His five great-grandchildren are Hayden, Mikala, Melissa, Matthew and Dimitrious.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, brother Donald and infant son Roy Brian.

He was a lifetime member of the VFW and was a member of the Elks Lodge for more than 50 years.

Tom was dedicated to his wife and family. He was an expert dancer, in particular ball room and square dancing. He loved traveling by motor home throughout the U.S.

A memorial service will be held at United Methodist Church in Crescent City on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 5 p.m., with a dinner reception immediately following at the Lighthouse Inn.
