AAA youth football takes down Ferndale

CRESCENT CITY — The ‘AAA' DNYF Mustangs scored an overtime touchdown Sunday to beat the undefeated Ferndale Mustangs 26-20.

"This is the first time this teams lost ... and we shut them down," Pat Terry, coach for DNYF said.

"We had some guys really step up in offense and defense," Terry said.

Julian Markussen caught one touchdown pass and ran one in. Kris Larson scored a touchdown. Austin Moore caught a touchdown, and Colin Taylor caught one in the end zone for the win.

Berrick Sala stood out on defense, Terry said.

"He was a monster, he just shut their running game down in the second half," he said.

Terry noted that "none of this would have been possible without the team working together."

In other games, the DNYF Blue #1 scored 12 points against the Eureka Jacks' 19, for a loss for the ‘A' league team.

The DNYF Gold #2 corralled the Ferndale Mustangs, shutting them out with 23 points.

The ‘AA' DNYF Mavericks lost against the ‘AA' Ferndale Mustangs who scored 13 points, leaving the Mavericks with 6.

"At least three of our teams look like they're going to the playoffs," Wendy Terry, president of Del Norte Youth Football and Cheer said.

Oct. 28 will be the teams' last regular season games. Nov. 3 will be the Cheer Competition in Eureka. Nov. 4 is the youth football playoffs, and Nov. 18 is the championship game at Humboldt State University.
