Obituaries: James H. Goodman(1927-2007)

Reverend James H. Goodman died Oct. 17, 2007 after a short illness. He was born on June 7, 1927 in Columbus, Miss., where he grew up and graduated from Lee High School in 1945.

Upon graduation from high school, he entered into the U.S. Air Force during the end of World War II. Upon his discharge from the Air Force, he worked for the Veteran's Administration until his ordination as a Southern Baptist Minister.

He moved to Briceland in 1955 where he started his first church, then moved to Crescent City in 1957, where he began a thirty year tenure as the pastor of the Oceanview Baptist Church. He then accepted a position as Director of Missions for the North Coast Baptist Association, where he served for three years. He later served as the pastor of the Fort Dick Church and Crescent City Nazarene Church.

James is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sallie Bickerstaff Goodman; sons James H. Goodman Jr. and his wife Vicki of Crescent City, and Tim Goodman of Klamath Falls, Ore.; grandchildren Jonathan Goodman and wife Rebecca, Sarah Perreault and husband Mark, Rebekah Frisk and husband Jeremy, Joshua Goodman, Drew Goodman, Alexa Goodman, and Aubrey Goodman. Mr. Goodman is also survived by eight great grandchildren; his brothers Billy Goodman of Caledonia, MS, and Doug Goodman of Wills Point, Texas; sisters Aleta Bowling of Atlanta, GA, Margie Bailey of Pensacola, Fla., and Constance Weathers of Columbus, MS. He was preceded in death by his parents E.L. and Bernice Goodman and brother Louis Goodman.

Visitation will be held at Wier's Mortuary Chapel on Sunday, Oct. 21 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church, Pacific and G Street, Crescent City, on Monday, Oct. 22, at 2 p.m.

Family interment will take place at the Del Norte County Veteran's Cemetery, Crescent City.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wier's Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City.
