A Crescent City man is dead and Del Norte County Sheriff’s detectives are investigating after an alleged unusual turn of events off Elk Valley Road Sunday night. Christopher David Dimon, 35, died of a single gunshot wound to the back of the head, according to Sheriff Erik Apperson.
Deputies were called to Sutter Coast Hospital for a gunshot victim who was brought in a private vehicle after 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
The driver told authorities he was driving in the 200 to 300 block of Elk Valley Road at about 7:30 p.m., when he was hailed by a pedestrian, later identified as Dimon, according to Apperson. The driver said he had pulled over along the north edge of Elk Valley Road and was speaking to Dimon when another person appeared behind Dimon and shot him, Apperson said.
The driver of the truck, Brandon Ridenour, 33, was later arrested for burglary, possession of a controlled substance, being under the influence of a controlled substance and driving on a suspended license.
Apperson said the burglary arrest was for a separate offense, unrelated to the other charges.
Ridenour’s truck was towed and is being held as evidence in the investigation, according to the sheriff. Apperson could not confirm if Ridenour and Dimon knew each other and said no description of the alleged gunman was given to authorities.
