A memorial, including a funeral procession through local streets, will be held Tuesday for William “Bill” Jaros, who worked as a local Six Rivers National Forest firefighter for 12 years.

Jaros, who is also a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, died July 8 after he collapsing during a conditioning hike with his colleagues from Engine 312 of the Gasquet Ranger District.

Jaros will be escorted by military, U.S. Forest Service and CALFIRE honor guards starting at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Del Norte High School, 1301 El Dorado St., Crescent City. The procession will end at the Del Norte County Fairgrounds. The memorial service will begin at 10:30 a.m.

In addition to working for the Six Rivers National Forest, Jaros was also the union representative at the Gasquet Ranger District, representing employees for Local 1937, NFFE, IAMAW.
