Nicole “Nikki” was born in Crescent City, where she attended Foursquare Christian School, Crescent Elk, and Del Norte High schools. She graduated from Chico State in May 2016 with a bachelor of science in cellular and molecular biology. While attending Chico State, she was a member of Omicron Theta Epsilon, a biology honors society. Nikki was enrolled in classes this fall at Chico State and was working towards her clinical lab scientist certification. She lived in Florianópolis, Brazil for a study abroad program during the spring semester of 2014.
Nikki was an outdoor enthusiast and enjoyed activities such as scuba diving, surfing, bird watching, camping, snowboarding, hiking, and riding her motorcycle. She was a strong-willed, no-nonsense, free-spirited, determined, pure-hearted and genuine girl who embraced life and lived it to the fullest. Nikki loved spending time and traveling with her family, and often sought counsel from them when making important decisions. She was a loyal friend and a fierce advocate for those in need. Her authentic and outgoing nature helped her form friendships with ease, touching the lives of so many people in her 24 years. Her memory will be kept alive by all those who knew and loved her. She passed through this life a meteor, bright and dazzling, impatient and on her way to somewhere else.
Nicole is survived by her parents, Randy and Sonya Fugate, her sister and best friend, Mari, her grandparents, Dale and Louise Fugate, and her uncles, Carey and Chris Fugate and families and Brent Thompson and family. She is also loved and adored by her many cousins and friends, too numerous to count.
Nicole’s celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 7, at Foursquare Church, 144 Butte St. Crescent City, at 11 a.m.
