My mother, Vivian Malloy, who is 85 years old, was surprised and honored on Dec. 21 by first, a phone call, and then a visit from three officers for the California Highway Patrol.
During 2016 and maybe early in 2017, my mom did a lot of baking. She did a lot of cookies, breads and muffins. A lot of those baked goods were sent to the fire department, police department, sheriff’s department, CHP and ambulance stations. It was my mom’s way of thanking them all for their hard work. That and the fact that she loved giving.
Last year proved to be an exceptionally hard one on her health and she hasn’t been able to do any baking at all. She was never looking for recognition. It just made her very happy and it kept her busy.
As her daughter, I’ve been able to enjoy her baked good my whole life. Through her, I myself have become a baker. Although truthfully I know that it’s nothing like hers.
I just wanted to give a special thank you to the CHP for acknowledging her and brightening her day.
Also, a very special thank you to my mom for being my mother.
