DEL NORTE COUNTY   

Beginning guitar for veterans 

Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness presents guitar instruction with teaching artist Dale Morgan. Beginning classes will meet via Zoom, Mondays at 5 p.m. July 13 through Aug. 24. Classes are free-of-charge to veterans, active military, and their family members. Families may participate whether or not the veteran attends. Beyond beginning guitar for veterans 

 Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness presents guitar instruction with teaching artist Dale Morgan. The beyond beginners classes will be held in-person, Tuesdays at 4 p.m. July 14 through Aug. 25. Classes will be held at 501 H Street, Crescent City (please park in the lot behind the building). Due to gathering size restrictions, only nine students are allowed to participate in-person at this time, and social distancing with masks is required. Workshops are free-of-charge to veterans, active military, and their family members. Families may participate whether or not the Veteran attends. Free arts classes for veterans, families  

Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness (DNACA) is offering two free arts classes for veterans, active military and their family members.   

A creative writing class with Sharon McKinney will be offered on Wednesdays at 4 p.m. beginning July 8 through Aug. 26. The class will cover elements of the short story, dialogue, character development, editing, and more. Notebooks and writing utensils provided, or bring your own.   

A pencil drawing class with Sarah Broderick will be offered on Thursdays, at 4 p.m. from July 9 through Aug. 6. Class will conclude with the Veterans Art Show on Aug. 13. Drawing pads and graphite pencils provided, or bring your own.   

Both classes are offered free-of-charge to veterans, active military, and their family members. Families may participate whether or not the veteran attends. Due to gathering size restrictions, a limited number of students are allowed, and social distancing and masks are required. Pre-registration is required.    

Classes will be held at 501 H St., Crescent City (please park in the lot behind the building).

Veterans Art Show; call for artists 

The annual Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness Veterans Art Show will be held from Aug. 13 to Oct. 1, in the Del Norte Superior Court at 450 H St in Crescent City. Interested artists who are veterans or family members of veterans, should email pictures of their artwork to DNACA at office@dnaca.net. For more information, call 707-464-1336. Only one piece of art will be chosen per artist. Submission of all mediums are welcome, but artwork will be screened for inclusion in the exhibit. 

Art in Public Places    

Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness’ (DNACA) Art in Public Places exhibit in the Del Norte Superior Court at 450 H St in Crescent City is a collection from artist Arlene Krogstad entitled “Colorful Del Norte.” The exhibit is available for viewing through Aug. 13. The courthouse is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays except for state holidays. DNACA’s Art in Public Places exhibit on the mezzanine of the Del Norte County Regional Airport, 1650 Dale Rupert Rd. is an exhibition of works by Horst Wolf entitled “Random Ramblings”. This show is available for viewing through October 1. The airport terminal’s regular hours are 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays, 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturdays, and 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays. California Redwoods Art Association    

Claire Heasler is the Artist of the Month at the 2nd Street Gallery. Other exhibits include Susan Humphry at the Del Norte County Library, Catherine Balck at the Wild Rivers Foundation offices, with Carol Long and Nancy Bachmann at the Sutter Coast Hospital Infusion Center. There are an additional 35 individual artists’ work on display in the Main Hall at Sutter Coast Hospital. The 2nd Street Gallery will be open by appointment only for the foreseeable future. Coast Redwoods Art Association    

Coast Redwoods Art Association’s Crescent Harbor Art Gallery, located at 140 Marine Way in Crescent City. The Artist of the Month is Bettie Belitz, who has created art works in clay, watercolor, pen and ink, acrylics, and oils. The Del Norte County Library at 190 Price Mall is also displaying work by Eva-Marie Tanner-Klaas. For more information, call 707-464-9133.   

Gallery of Arts and Culture    

The Gallery of Arts & Culture at 175 H St, Crescent City, is now open. Masks and gloves will be required according to the Department of Public Health, until they are certain the virus is abating. The callery has been sanitized and freshened, and is ready to welcome guests and visitors. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, call the gallery at 707-464-4745. 

CURRY COUNTY   

 Brian Scott Gallery   

Brian Scott Gallery, located at 515 Chetco Ave. in Brookings, showcases more than 25 artists. The Artist of the Month is pastel artist Les Cornish. Please visit the gallery, now open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. where you can enjoy ocean views from the third-floor patio. For further information, call 541-469-1241.  

Fog and Fine Art Gallery   

Located in Wright’s Custom Framing and Art Supply, 810 Chetco Ave., Brookings, the Fog and Fine Art Gallery displays many local artists showing a variety of media including jewelry, pottery, painting, and more. The gallery also has a dedicated classroom that inspires new and seasoned artists with workshops. The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Manley Art Center and Gallery    

The gallery will reopen on a limited basis with a four-person show featuring Linda Evans, Sharon Guinn, Peggy Patton and John Gehl from June 30 till July 25. The opening will be July 11, 3 - 5 p.m. Masks will be required in the gallery and they will be on hand. Please do not bring food. Drinks will be offered.
