Local authors speak

The Del Norte County Library announces a new program spotlighting local authors in the community and surrounding areas.

Come listen and ask questions. The first event will take place 7 p.m. Friday at the Del Norte County Library at 190 Price Mall. The featured authors will be Will Meriwether, author of “Becoming Ernest,” and Vickey Stamps, author of “For Cowboys and Them That Love ‘Em.”

Crescent Harbor Gallery activities

Coast Redwoods Art Association’s Crescent Harbor Gallery’s Artist of the Month for August is Jenny Bayon, showcasing her paintings in acrylics.

August’s demo will be led by Audi Stanton noon Aug. 24 and will be preceded by a finger food potluck. Bring a dish to share and some friends.

Art in Public Places

DNACA’s Art in Public Places show is a collaboration with the Harrington House titled “Third Eye Open: Beyond the Siren’s Song,” a collection of paintings by Dianne Renee Shilling. The exhibit is in the Del Norte County Courthouse and will be available for viewing through Sept. 28. The courthouse is at 450 H St., Crescent City, and is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays except for state holidays.

Coast Redwoods Art Association Juried Art Competition reception

The CRAA’s 2017 Juried Art Competition reception is 6 p.m.-8 p.m — open to the public — Sept. 1. Awards will be bestowed to artists entered in the show.

2nd Street Gallery

California Redwoods Art Association’s 2nd Street Gallery’s Artist of the Month for August is Linda Elmore with a collection of her watercolor.

The gallery has also expanded their reach to various locations throughout Crescent City. Florence Keller originals are on display through Sept. 1 in the main hallway of Sutter Coast Hospital at 800 E. Washington Blvd., and Wild Rivers Community Foundation at 900 Front St. will display originals by Carol Long through Oct. 1.

Become a member of the gallery and spend Saturday painting and networking 1 p.m.-3 p.m.

Art classes for children take place Saturday mornings. Cathy Bauer will host her card class on the third Thursday of each month for a registration fee of $13. Call to reserve a space.

California Redwoods Art Association’s Labor Day Weekend Celebration Art Show

Artists are invited to enter CRAA’s 2017 Labor Day Weekend Celebration Art Show in one of four categories: oil, watercolor, and acrylic; pencil, ink, pastels, and charcoal; sculpture and pottery; and fabric and jewelry.

Artists may enter up to four works for a $20 nonrefundable entry fee each. Entry forms and fees must be received by Aug. 28 at 1228 2nd St.

Art must be delivered to the Cultural Center at 1001 Front St., noon-5 p.m. Sept. 1. There will be a reception for all artists and their guests 4 p.m.-6 p.m. Sept. 3.

The show will be open noon to 5 p.m. Sept. 2-4 and all work must be picked up between 4:30 p.m.-5p.m. that Monday. Winners will be displayed at the gallery through Oct. 1.
