Get to know Del Norte County’s local parks this weekend.

Find Your Park! Crescent City will be held Saturday and Sunday. The event will begin with activities at Beachfront Park, including the Graffiti 5K Run, an obstacle course, live music and storytelling. The following day, families can take part in a plethora of free or discounted outdoor activities including horseback riding, bike rides and the 9th-Annual Klamath Berry Festival.

People can sign up for the outdoor activities starting at Live From Downtown: It’s First Friday! on Friday. There will also be opportunities to sign up for activities at Beachfront Park on Saturday.

Families taking part in the activities at Beachfront Park may find their noses piqued by the scent of meat cooked over flame.

The two-day Redwood Coast Grills Gone Wild competition is sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society this year. Sharyn Loughry, executive administrative assistant for the Crescent City-Del Norte County Chamber of Commerce, said the chamber is committed to having 15 teams. According to the chamber’s website, the competition is “an automatic national qualifier” if there are 15 teams.

Contestants will barbecue four meats — chicken, pork ribs, pork butt and brisket. There are five places for each meat category, a third-place winner, reserve grand champion and grand champion winners.

More than $9,500 in prize money will be awarded to the winners. The Grand Champion will walk away with $3,000 and will get an automatic entry into a national competition, Loughry told the Triplicate in July.

In conjunction with the barbecue competition will be a brewfest featuring 10 local breweries. People can try libations from Bandon Brewing Co., Arch Rock Brewing Co., Chetco Brewing Co., Misty Mountain Brewing Co., Climate City Brewing Co., Port o’ Pints Brewing Co., SeaQuake Brewing, Six Rivers Brewery, Mad River Brewing Co., and Redwood Curtain Brewing Co.

There will also be pinot noir and pinot gris from Foris Vineyards, of Cave Junction, according to Loughry.

There will also be barbecue from vendors and 2 ounce samples from some contestants for sale.

Businesses and organizations participating in Find Your Park include Elk Valley Head Start, the Del Norte Child Care Council, the Second Street Art Gallery, Rogue Valley Wind Chasers and Wild Rivers Disc Golf.

Parkway Feed will have a hay maze for kids, Crescent Trail will bring their horses and Redwood Rides will offer bike rides.
