Art in Public Places
Today is the last day to view DNACA’s Art in Public Places show titled “Third Eye Open: Beyond the Siren’s Song,” a collaboration with the Harrington House, a collection of paintings by Dianne Renee Shilling. Beginning tomorrow the show will be “Stories We Could Tell: Drawings, Paintings and Book Illustrations” by Marcia Voelker. The courthouse is at 450 H St., Crescent City, and is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays except for state holidays. For more information, call DNACA at 707-464-1336.
Crescent Harbor Gallery eventss1
Coast Redwoods Art Association’s Crescent Harbor Gallery will be showcasing their annual juried art competition for October. September’s demo will be led by Steve Washburn with his approach to landscapes in oils at noon today and will be preceded by a finger food potluck. Bring a dish to share and some friends.
October’s demo will be led by Pete Chasar with graphics-inspired painting in acrylics at noon Oct. 26. Their fall luncheon will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 21. Every Saturday from 10:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. is Paint and Play day for children. For more information, call 707-464-9133.
Arts for Veterans: drums, guitar, and drawing classes
The Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness invites veterans and their families to join us for another hour-long drum circle 4 p.m.-5 p.m. Saturday at the VFW Hall at 810 H St. Hosted by Mombo Hernandez, hand drums and percussion instruments will be provided.
A new 12-week course of guitar workshops with Dale Morgan will begin at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 10 in the Fireside Room of the VFW Hall.
A six week drawing class taught by Sara Dee Broderick will also be starting up from 1 p.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 14 at the Del Norte Senior Center at 1765 Northcrest Dr. All workshops are free. DNACA’s Arts for Veterans program is funded in part through Veterans Initiative in the Arts, a program of the California Arts Council, a state agency. Juried photography show, reception
Hanging in the Cultural Center at 1001 Front St., Oct. 1-8 will be 2nd St Gallery’s Juried Photography Show. The public is invited to a reception honoring the artists who entered the show from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Cultural Center. For more information, call 707-460-1414.
The Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness premieres its 35th Performance Series at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 21 at Crescent Elk Auditorium at 994 G St.,with Suburban Showgirl, an all ages musical comedy infused with dance and emotion. Tickets are $18 general, $15 senior (65 and older) or transitional-aged youth (18-25), and $12 students. Season tickets, transferable and replaceable if lost, are also available for discounted admission to all five performances in the series. Music in the Redwoods
Music in the Redwoods 2017-18 concert season tickets are still available for discounted admission to the remaining three performances: Neave Trio, classical piano Nov. 17; Two on Tap, classic song and dance Jan. 6; and Duo Baldo, classical and comical piano and violin April 22. California Redwoods Art Association
California Redwoods Art Association’s 2nd St Gallery will showcase the winners of their Labor Day Weekend Celebration Art Show for the month of September. Wild Rivers Community Foundation, 900 Front St., will also be displaying originals by Carol Long through Sunday. October will display the winners of their Juried Photography Show. Become a member of the gallery and spend Saturday afternoons painting and networking from 1 p.m,-3 p.m. Art classes for children take place on Saturday mornings.
