Gallery of Arts and Culture

The Gallery of Arts and Culture at 175 H St. is participating in this month’s Live From Downtown First Friday from 5 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Friday with beverages and appetizers.

The Gallery will feature harpist Jerry Bauer playing classical and Celtic music as well as his own compositions. Artists being highlighted in the Gallery this month are Laura Wiens with her Del Norte landscape and seascape oil paintings and Karen Reyman’s South African Women Collectives fundraising art with giclee watercolors by famous painter Joan Beuche framed with gold leaf liners.

‘Sweets and Treats’

Del Norte High Stage Band and the Tsunami Swing present Sweets and Treats, a night of music, dancing, fun and dessert. The two groups will be playing dance music all night, starting with a dance lesson at 6:30 p.m. at the Elk’s Lodge at 356 H St., Crescent City.

Admission includes dessert and coffee for $15 singles, $25 couples, and $10 students. All proceeds go to benefit the DNHS Music Program for the Reno Jazz Festival.

Beginning oil painting

Local award-winning artist Arlene Krogstad will teach a three-part beginners’ oil painting workshop, in a paint-along format, from 9 a.m-noon Feb. 9, Feb. 16, and Feb. 23 at Crescent Harbor Gallery, 140 Marine Way. The cost to participate in all three is $65 and registration is required.

Most supplies will be furnished, but participants are asked to bring two small jars with lids. Professional instruction will cover mixing colors, step-by-step approach, and composition. For more information, call 707-464-9133.

Manley Art Center and Gallery

The Manley Art Center and Gallery will be presenting new works by the Chetco Photography Association at their location at 433 Oak St., Brookings.

The public is invited to a reception 3 p.m.-5 p.m. Feb. 11 with food and wine where questions about cameras and smartphones will be answered.

Good Co. electro-swing

The Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness presents its third performance of the 35th season at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 10 at Crescent Elk Auditorium, 994 G St.

Good Co. provides a fusion of today’s dance music with the Gypsy jazz, harmonica jams, and live horn section of the speakeasy era. Tickets are $18 general, $15 senior (65 and older) or transitional-aged youth (18-25), and $12 students (k-college, full-time). Friends of Music

Brookings Harbor Friends of Music continues their 33rd season Feb. 11 with Nordic Voices, an a capella group from Scandinavia.

Their upcoming lineup includes: The Minetti Quartet, a string ensemble from Austria on Feb. 25; and the Rastrelli Cello Quartet, an outfit dedicated to performing between the genres, April 15. The season concludes May 20 with Friends of Music’s annual scholarship concert, free to all, teaming up with Alexander Tutunov, a professor of piano at Southern Oregon University, to highlight young artists selected as scholarship winners.

All concerts take place at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 102 Park Ave., Brookings. Individual concert tickets are $20. Students under age 18 receive free admission.

Pistol River Concert

Crescent Harbor Gallery

Coast Redwoods Art Association’s Crescent Harbor Gallery February Artist of the Month is Cheryl Anderson with a collection of her paintings.

February’s demo will be led by local artist Rosemary Garcia on a mystery subject in acrylics at noon Feb. 22, preceded by a potluck. A papier mache program, for both kids and adults, takes place at 1 p.m. on Saturdays; bring a round plastic container.

Every Saturday from 10:30 a.m.–4 p.m. is Paint and Play day for children. Every Sunday 1 p.m.-4 p.m. are paint-ins, offering a space and good company for artists and crafters.

California Redwoods Art Association

California Redwoods Art Association’s 2nd St Gallery’s February Artist of the Month is Nina Baron, showcasing her mixed media artwork.

They will also be displaying collections throughout the community. Wild Rivers Community Foundation at 900 Front St. will feature Christie McRiley, Andrea Mastrangelo, and Billye Woodford through June.

The Del Norte County Library at 1080 Mason Mall will feature Gracia Molloy and Kane Jackson through April. Become a member of the gallery and spend Saturday afternoons painting and networking from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. Art classes for children take place on Saturday mornings. The Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness’ Art in Public Places exhibit is a collection of photography by Pam Wilcox titled “Shedding Light on God’s Tapestry” and will be available for viewing in the Del Norte County Courthouse at 450 H St., Crescent City, through March 8.
