"Athenry": An Irish tale

Chetco Pelican Players presents the final weekend of production for the play “Athenry” at the Chetco Playhouse, 1240 Chetco Ave.

Set in mid-19th Century Ireland, this is the tale of a family who refuses to give up. Performances take place 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

Art in Public Places

Today is the last day to view the Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness’ Art in Public Places exhibit titled “Kaleidoscope,” showcasing paintings created by Arlene Krogstad.

Beginning Friday and on display through June 14 will be a show titled “Art from the Inside IV,” the fourth annual exhibit curated as a part of Arts in Corrections at Pelican Bay State Prison, a program of the William James Association and partnership with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and the California Arts Council.

DNACA’s Art in Public Places exhibits are available for viewing in the Del Norte County Courthouse, 450 H St., Crescent City. The courthouse is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays except for state holidays.

Crescent Harbor Gallery

Coast Redwoods Art Association’s Crescent Harbor Gallery, 140 Marine Way, Artist of the Month for April is Ray Torres with a collection of his acrylic paintings.

April’s demo will be led by Debbie Dawson on watercolors at noon today, preceded by a potluck. A papier maché program, for both kids and adults, takes place at 1 p.m. on Saturdays; bring a round plastic container. Every Saturday 10:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. is Paint and Play day for children. Every Sunday 1 p.m.-4 p.m. are paint-ins, offering a space and good company for artists and crafters. Every Monday 10:30 a.m.-4 p.m. provides another chance for people to create in a community setting.

The Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness concludes its 35th season 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Crescent Elk Auditorium, 994 G St.

Max Hatt / Edda Glass deliver award-winning Jazz Americana and Brazilian Bossa Nova with “an incomparable spook” (Nashville Scene) and “a unique sound” (NPR).

Tickets are $18 general, $15 senior (65 and older) or transitional-aged youth (18-25), and $12 students (k-college, full-time). Manley Art Center and Gallery

The Manley Art Center and Gallery, 433 Oak St., Brookings, will display a collection of artwork by their April Featured Artist Dave Howell through May 6.

The Gallery is open 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Children of all ages are invited to the Center from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturdays to see work created by member artists and work in the classroom. For more information, call 541-469-1807.

2nd St Gallery

California Redwoods Art Association’s 2nd St Gallery, 1228 2nd St, Artist of the Month for April is Pauline Lodolini, showcasing her multimedia work.

The gallery is also displaying members’ collections throughout the community.

The Del Norte County Library, 190 Price Mall, will feature Gracia Molloy and Kane Jackson through April.

Wild Rivers Community Foundation, 900 Front St., will feature Christie McRiley, Andrea Mastrangelo and Billye Woodford through June.

Every Wednesday noon-2 p.m. local artist Carol Long will teach oil painting class at the Gallery and reservations are required. "The Oceans within Us"

Del Norte High School Dance presents their Spring Dance Concert, “The Oceans within Us.”

Shows are 7 p.m. May 17-19 at Crescent Elk Auditorium, 994 G St., Crescent City.

Tickets are available for pre-sale at Del Norte Office Supply, 240 I St., Crescent City, and at the door. General Admission is $10 pre-sale or $12 at the door. Students and Seniors are $5, Children (6-12) are $3, and Children (5 and under) receive free admission.

Arts for Veterans drum circle

The Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness is hosting a drum circle, led by teaching artist and Vietnam veteran Mombo Hernandez, 4 p.m.-5 p.m. May 19 at the VFW Hall, 810 H St., Crescent City.

Hand drums and percussion instruments will be provided. All activities in DNACA’s Arts for Veterans program are free-of-charge to veterans, active military, and their family members. Friends of Music

Brookings Harbor Friends of Music concludes their 33rd season with their annual Scholarship concert May 20, free to all, teaming up with Alexander Tutunov, a professor of piano at Southern Oregon University, to highlight young artists selected as scholarship winners.

The concert takes place at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 102 Park Ave., Brookings.
