Crescent City’s version of Dancing with the Stars raised $17,000 for the Humane Society of Del Norte’s spay and neuter program earlier this month.

The 5th-annual event was more of a lip synch than a dancing contest, said organization president Danielle Larsen-Wheeler.

This year’s first-place winners were Amber Bachman, Hilary Fahning, Kari Antoinette, Kelsy Hints and Jana Harndon, who donned aprons and called themselves the Spice Girls. According to Larsen-Wheeler, the prize was a $500 check to be donated to a charity of the group’s choice. The Spice Girls chose the Harrington House, Larsen-Wheeler said.

The people’s choice winners this year were Redwood School teachers Scott Lindsey, Matt Berry, Chris Rice, Jared Wells and Jim Lund, who dressed up as Guns N’ Roses.

Other Dancing with the Stars contestants include Eric Tedsen, Natahna Wood, Tameka Jackson, Molly Sherman, Stephanie Ball, Joshona Norberry, Brian Lenover, Kelsey Mercer, Brianna, Ashley and Aleesha Lenover, Brad Haberman, Irma Kelly, Stephanie Wenning, Grace Mays and McKinsey Barrett.

Larsen-Wheeler said although they weren’t contestants, she and Del Norte County Treasurer-Tax Collector Barbara Lopez performed as the group Salt n’ Peppa.

This year’s sponsors were 101 Laundromat & Dry Cleaners, the Crescent City Women’s Club, Redwoods-Leavitt Insurance, SeaQuake, The Club, Four Paws Pet and Jan Harwood.
