"The Oceans Within Us"

Del Norte High School Dance presents their Spring Dance Concert, “The Oceans Within Us.” Shows are at 7 p.m. today, Friday and Saturday at Crescent Elk Auditorium, 994 G St., Crescent City.

Tickets are available for pre-sale at Del Norte Office Supply, 240 I St., Crescent City and at the door. General Admission is $10 pre-sale or $12 at the door. Students and Seniors are $5, Children (6-12) are $3, and Children (5 and under) receive free admission.

Arts for Veterans drum circle

The Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness is hosting a drum circle, led by local musician Mombo Hernandez, 4 p.m.-5p.m. Saturday at the VFW Hall, 810 H St., Crescent City.

Hand drums and percussion instruments will be provided. All activities in DNACA’s Arts for Veterans program are free-of-charge to veterans, active military and their family members.

California Redwoods Art Association

California Redwoods Art Association’s 2nd St Gallery, 1228 2nd St., Artist of the Month for May is Mario Vaden, showcasing his photography.

Children’s art class, open to ages 7-14, continue 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m. through June 16 on Saturdays in pen and ink. Registration is required for this free-of-charge and supplies-furnished class.

The Gallery is also displaying members’ collections throughout the community, including: Vita Cucina with Bunny Phillips, Nancy Sander, Tanya Winston, Richard Wardlaw, Steve Washburn and Cynthia Swain; Sutter Coast Hospital with Susan Humphrey, Kara Koepke, Pauline Lodolini, Norman Grochowski, Gracia Mallow, Bill Harper, John Barker, Roger Sharp, Ed Reidel, and Bill Sanchez; the Del Norte County Library with Catherine Balck; and Wild Rivers Community Foundation with Christie McRiley, Andrea Mastrangelo, and Billye Woodford through June.

Every Wednesday noon-2 p.m. local artist Carol Long will teach oil painting class at the Gallery and reservations are required.

The Gallery will host a parking lot rummage sale 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. Vendors are also wanted for the Gallery’s Fourth of July art show. Become a member of the Gallery and spend Saturday afternoons painting and networking from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. For more information, call 707-460-1414.

Paint pour party and fundraiser

The Crescent City Downtown Divas invite the public to a fundraiser 6 p.m.-9 p.m. Saturday at Pacific Northwest Physical Therapy, 225 I St., Crescent City.

The event includes paint pour art creation hosted by One Love Arts and Parties, hors d’oeuvres, a no-host bar and raffle.

Tickets are $40 per person and are available at Pacific Northwest Physical Therapy, Johnston’s Gift Garden and Home, 962 3rd St., 6 Degrees of Celebration, 783 3rd St., and One Love Arts and Parties, 873 2nd St.

Crescent Harbor Gallery activities

Coast Redwoods Art Association’s Crescent Harbor Gallery, 140 Marine Way, Artist of the Month for May is Helen Coxhead McFarland with an exhibit titled “Contemporary Designs Using Ancient Celtic Motifs,” which features her work in oil, watercolor, and permanent markers.

May’s demo will be led by Arlene Krogstad on oil pastels at noon May 24, preceded by a potluck. Saturdays include a papier maché program 1 p.m. Monday from 10:30 a.m.-4 p.m. offers a space and good company for artists and crafters. For more information, call 707-464-9133.

Friends of Music

Brookings Harbor Friends of Music concludes their 33rd season with their annual Scholarship concert on Sunday, free to all, teaming up with Alexander Tutunov, a professor of piano at Southern Oregon University, to highlight young artists selected as scholarship winners. Manley Art Center and Gallery

The Manley Art Center and Gallery, 433 Oak St., Brookings, will display a collection of ceramics and teapots by their May Featured Artists the Mudslingers.

A selection of teas will be available for sampling while viewing artwork. The Gallery is open 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Oregon Oldtime Fiddlers

The Oregon Oldtime Fiddlers present their annual stage show and jam at the Chetco Harbor Grange, 97895 Shopping Center Ave., Brookings, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on June 2.

The day will include a circle jam, a fiddle jamboree and various musicians on stage. Attendees are welcome to bring their own acoustic stringed instrument and join in.

Art in Public Places

The Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness’ Art in Public Places exhibit on display through June 14 is a show titled “Art from the Inside IV,” the fourth annual exhibit curated as a part of Arts in Corrections at Pelican Bay State Prison, a program of the William James Association and partnership with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and the California Arts Council.

DNACA’s Art in Public Places exhibits are available for viewing in the Del Norte County Courthouse, 450 H St., Crescent City. The courthouse is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays except for state holidays. For more information, call DNACA at 707-464-1336.

Beginning oil painting classes

Local award-winning artist Arlene Krogstad will teach a three-part beginners’ oil painting workshop with flowers as the subject 9 a.m-noon June 8, June 15, and June 22 at Crescent Harbor Gallery, 140 Marine Way.

The cost to participate in all three is $65 and registration is required. Most supplies will be furnished but participants are asked to bring two small jars with lids. Professional instruction will cover mixing colors, step-by-step approach and composition. For more information, call 707-464-9133.
