Chetco Pelican Players

The Chetco Pelican Players present “Once Upon a Mattress,” wherein the story of “The Princess and the Pea” takes a new spin full of songs and humor. The live performances take place at 1240 Chetco Ave., Brookings, at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays, running through June 24.

Art in Public Places

Today is the last day to view the Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness’ Art in Public Places exhibit titled “Art from the Inside IV,” the fourth annual exhibit curated as a part of Arts in Corrections at Pelican Bay State Prison, a program of the William James Association and partnership with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and the California Arts Council.

Beginning Friday, the exhibit will be a collection of artwork created by students in DNACA’s Arts for Veterans program, funded, in part, by Veterans in the Arts, a program of the California Arts Council, a state agency. DNACA’s Art in Public Places exhibits are available for viewing in the Del Norte County Courthouse at 450 H St., Crescent City. The courthouse is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays except for state holidays.

California Redwoods Art Association

California Redwoods Art Association’s 2nd St Gallery, 1228 2nd St., Artist of the Month for June is Holly Jacot with a collection of her acrylic paintings.

The Gallery is also displaying members’ collections throughout the community, including: Vita Cucina with Bunny Phillips, Nancy Sander, Tanya Winston, Richard Wardlaw, Steve Washburn, and Cynthia Swain; Sutter Coast Hospital with Mario Vaden, Catherine Balck, Richard Wardlaw, William Harper, Bill Sanchez, and Pauline Lodolini; the Del Norte County Library with Ed Reidel; and Wild Rivers Community Foundation with Christie McRiley, Andrea Mastrangelo, and Billye Woodford through June.

Every Wednesday noon-2 p.m. local artist Carol Long will teach oil painting class at the Gallery and reservations are required.

Children’s watercolor classes are 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m. on Saturdays July 7-28 for $10 per student.

Spirits in Clay classes for children are 10 a.m.-noon beginning July 16 and are free thanks to a grant from the Wild Rivers Foundation.

Registration is required for all classes. Become a member of the Gallery and spend Saturday painting and networking from 1 p.m.-3 p.m.

Crescent Harbor Gallery

Coast Redwoods Art Association’s Crescent Harbor Gallery, 140 Marine Way, Artist of the Month for June is Aimee Bolender, showcasing her photography.

June’s demo will be led by Carol McKim on scribble art at noon on June 28, preceded by a potluck.

Saturdays include a papier maché program at 1 p.m. Mondays 10:30 a.m.-4 p.m. offers a space and good company for artists and crafters.

Manley Art Center and Gallery

The Manley Art Center and Gallery, 433 Oak St., Brookings, will display a collection of ribbon winners from the Azalea Art Festival through August. The Gallery is open 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.

Children of all ages are invited to the Center from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturdays to see work created by member artists and work in the classroom.

Brian Scott Gallery

Artist of the Month for June at Brian Scott Gallery, 515 Chetco Ave., Brookings, is Anna Garrison, a photographer who uses various techniques to produce her photos and builds her own wooden frames. She also won first place in the Azalea Festival Art Show.

Lighthouse Quilt Guild Quilt Show 2018

The Lighthouse Quilt Guild will host their annual Quilt Show 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Aug. 18 and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Aug. 19 at the Del Norte County Fairgrounds in Crescent City.
