Chetco Pelican Players

This is the final weekend to enjoy the Chetco Pelican Players presentation of “Once Upon a Mattress,” wherein the story of “The Princess and the Pea” takes a new spin full of songs and humor. Live performances take place 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturdayt at 1240 Chetco Ave., Brookings, and at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Crescent Harbor Gallery activities

Coast Redwoods Art Association’s Crescent Harbor Gallery, 140 Marine Way, Artist of the Month for June is Aimee Bolender, showcasing her photography.

June’s demo will be led by Carol McKim on scribble art at noon June 28, preceded by a potluck.

The prospectus for the gallery’s Annual National Juried Art Show, which will be on display Sept. 1-30 with a reception from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. on Sept. 1, is now available.

Each entry is $20 with a maximum of three per artist and monetary awards will be given. All two-dimensional media is eligible.

Saturdays include a papier maché program at 1 p.m. Mondays from 10:30 a.m.-4 p.m. offers a space and good company for artists and crafters.

California Redwoods Art Association

California Redwoods Art Association’s 2nd St Gallery, 1228 2nd St, Artist of the Month for June is Holly Jacot with a collection of her acrylic paintings.

The Gallery is also displaying members’ collections throughout the community, including: Vita Cucina with Bunny Phillips, Nancy Sander, Tanya Winston, Richard Wardlaw, Steve Washburn, and Cynthia Swain; Sutter Coast Hospital with Mario Vaden, Catherine Balck, Richard Wardlaw, William Harper, Bill Sanchez, and Pauline Lodolini; the Del Norte County Library with Ed Reidel; and Wild Rivers Community Foundation with Christie McRiley, Andrea Mastrangelo, and Billye Woodford through June.

Every Wednesday noon-2 p.m. local artist Carol Long will teach oil painting class at the Gallery.

Children’s watercolor classes are 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m. on Saturdays July 7 through July 28 for $10 per student. Spirits in Clay classes for children are 10 a.m.-noon beginning July 16 and are free of charge thanks to a grant from the Wild Rivers Foundation. Registration is required for all classes.

Brian Scott Gallery

Artist of the Month for June at Brian Scott Gallery, 515 Chetco Ave., Brookings, is Anna Garrison, a photographer who uses various techniques to produce her photos and builds her own wooden frames. She also won first place in the Azalea Festival Art Show.

Lighthouse Quilt Guild Show 2018

The Lighthouse Quilt Guild will host their annual Quilt Show 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Aug. 18 and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Aug. 19 at the Del Norte County Fairgrounds in Crescent City. This year the theme is Color Explosion and will include vendors, door prizes, a judged quilt show, and more. Admission is a requested $3 donation.

Arts for Veterans guitar, creative writing, and drum circles

DNACA’s Arts for Veterans guitar class with Dale Morgan will continue this summer at the VFW Hall, 810 H St. Intermediate class is at 5:15 p.m. and beginning class is at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesdays running July 10 through Sept. 11. Creative Writing with Barbara Genovese will take place at the Del Norte Senior Center, 1765 Northcrest Dr., 2 p.m.-4 p.m. on Saturdays running July 14 through Sept. 1. Mombo Hernandez will lead a drum circle in Templeman Grove, located off of California 197 on the river side in Hiouchi, 4 p.m.-5 p.m. July 28.

All activities in DNACA’s Arts for Veterans program are free-of-charge to veterans, active military, and their family members. The program is funded, in part, by Veterans in the Arts, a program of the California Arts Council, a state agency. Art in Public Places

The Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness’ Art in Public Places exhibit is titled “Art by Veterans,” a collection of artwork created by students in DNACA’s Arts for Veterans program, funded, in part, by Veterans in the Arts, a program of the California Arts Council, a state agency. The exhibit will be up through Aug. 9 when the public is invited to a reception from 5 p.m.-6 p.m. honoring the artists.

DNACA’s Art in Public Places exhibits are available for viewing in the Del Norte County Courthouse, 450 H St., Crescent City. The courthouse is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays except for state holidays.

Manley Art Center and Gallery

The Manley Art Center and Gallery, 433 Oak St., Brookings will display a collection of ribbon winners from the Azalea Art Festival through August.

The Gallery is open 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.

Children of all ages are invited to the Center from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturdays to see work created by member artists and work in the classroom.
