Gallery of Arts and Culture
The Gallery of Arts and Culture, 175 H St., is featuring the show Art Safari, benefiting the Smith River Alliance as well as the artists.
The show includes watercolor and acrylic works created by artists Rick Tolley, John Crater, Andrew Daneil, Paul Rickard, and Jeff Stanley. They spent the past two months painting in plein air along the Smith River from Myrtle Beach to Goose Creek while being hosted at Rock Creek Ranch.
Join the gallery 5 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Friday to enjoy the exhibit and hear about the importance of the Smith River and the Alliance from the Directors Grant Werschkull and Patti McCleary. Attendees will enjoy refreshments and music by harpist Jerry Bauer.
Also featured in the gallery are new watercolor paintings from John Hewett, created on his painting tour of Greece. A collection of original Christmas ornaments by Nancy Ehorn and Ann Holm are also available while supplies last. The Gallery is open 11 a.m-6:00 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday. Brookings Art Walk
Downtown Brookings continues its 15th year of Second Saturday Art Walks 3 p.m.-6 p.m. on Saturday. Several locations will host live music, art demonstrations, artist meet-and-greets and signings, and gallery exhibits. For more information, call 541-469-3123.
Crescent Harbor Gallery activities
Coast Redwoods Art Association’s Crescent Harbor Gallery, 140 Marine Way, will display work by their December Artist of the Month, students from the College of the Redwoods Art Program thanks to instructor Greg Christensen.
The gallery will host a Holiday Open House 2 p.m.-6 p.m. Saturday featuring member artists, hors-d’oeuvres, and desserts.
Saturdays at the gallery include a papier maché program 1 p.m.-3 p.m. Mondays 10:30 a.m.-4 p.m. offers a space and good company for artists and crafters. For more information, call 707-464-9133.
USO Show at the VFW
Lighthouse Repertory Theater invites the public to celebrate their 40th Anniversary with their show Entertaining the Troops held Saturday at the VFW Hall, 810 H St., Crescent City. The No Host Bar with Port O’Pints and Seaquake will open at 5 p.m. followed by dinner with piano accompaniment by Beverly Ritz at 6 p.m. Entertainment from past LRT productions will begin at 7 p.m. and a live and silent auction will take place throughout the evening.
Tickets are $35 General Admission or $30 for veterans and all proceeds benefit the VFW and future LRT productions. Tickets are available at Del Norte Office Supply, 210 I St., Crescent City. Wild Rivers Symphony
Wild Rivers Symphony (formerly known as Curry-Del Norte Orchestra) announces their winter concert, which will feature festive classical music. Please make note of the changed time and place of the Crescent City performance (for this concert series only).
The concerts will take place 7 p.m. Saturday at the Curry Public Library Learning Center, 94341 3rd St., Gold Beach; 3 p.m. Sunday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 1200 Easy St., Brookings; and 7 p.m. Monday at Mary Peacock School, 1720 Arlington Dr., Crescent City.
Tickets are $12 at the door and students K-12 receive free admission. California Redwoods Art Association
California Redwoods Art Association’s 2nd St Gallery, 1228 2nd St., will exhibit a collection of photography from December’s Artist of the Month, Catherine Balck.
The gallery is also displaying members’ collections throughout the community, including: the Del Norte County Library, Sutter Coast Hospital and their Infusion Center, and Wild Rivers Community Foundation.
Every Wednesday noon-2 p.m. local artist Carol Long teaches oil painting class and 2 p.m.-3 p.m. Jenny Rosa teaches ukulele at the Gallery. Registration is required for all classes.
They will host the next Second Sunday Hootenanny Sing Along 2 p.m.-4 p.m. this Sunday. They invite the public to their Holiday Open House 2 p.m.-6 p.m. Sunday, including refreshments and a raffle. Del Norte High School Madrigal Dinner
The Del Norte High School Madrigal Choir dinner will take place 6 p.m. Dec. 14-15 and noon Dec. 15 at the Crescent City Elks Lodge, 356 H St.
Enjoy a traditional medieval Christmas Feast complete with Lords and Ladies in period costuming, brass fanfare, traditional instrumental music, ensemble entertainment, and audience participation followed by a formal concert. Tickets are $30 for evening performances and $25 for the matinee and are available at Del Norte Office Supply, 240 I St., and should be purchased no later than Dec. 12. The fully catered meal will be provided by Marlo’s Greek and Italian Restaurant.
A Christmas Cactus
The Chetco Pelican Players present their Christmas production, “A Christmas Cactus,” a holiday mystery with a dash of love story.
The shows will take place 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday evenings and 2 p.m. on Sundays at the Chetco Playhouse, 1240 Chetco Ave., Brookings, running Friday through Dec. 16.

Poetry Out Loud
The Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness and Del Norte High School invite the public to the first annual Sunset High School-Wide Poetry Out Loud Competition at 11 a.m. Jan. 17 in Sunset’s MPR, 2500 Elk Valley Cross Road.
Del Norte High’s School-Wide Competition is being rescheduled; please stay tuned for the new date. Poetry Out Loud is a national recitation contest created by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation, giving participating students the opportunity to receive scholarships and recognition for their work. Art in Public Places
The Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness’ Art in Public Places exhibit is our 27th Annual Juried Multimedia Show.
This exhibit will be on display through Jan. 17 when we will host a public reception honoring the artists 5 p.m.-6 p.m. DNACA’s Art in Public Places exhibits are available for viewing in the Del Norte County Courthouse, 450 H St., Crescent City. The courthouse is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays except for state holidays. There will soon be an Art in Public Places exhibit in the new terminal of CEC airport, 150 Dale Rupert Road.
