Personal experience has taught me that recalls of elected officials are not for the faint of heart. While on the Crescent City Council when I complained about the sewer rate increases, unaffordable loan, predictions of default; not one of my fellow council members agreed that we should question and investigate things that looked like fraud/corruption/double billing.

Frustrated I tried recalling them. In response, they censured me.

Being inexperienced in politics there’s a lot to learn. First, politics is a blood sport — not literally — but figuratively. Second, all too often politicians forget to handle our tax paying dollars with respect.

The de facto chairman of the Cannabis Working Group, Jesse Davis, doesn’t live in either district and he doesn’t seem to have a clue about the costs or reasons for the recall. While he complains about divisiveness, he is in fact creating more divisiveness in the community.

Having different opinions and views is healthy for any board. Bad mouthing, name calling and demeaning fellow board members is counter-productive.

I wish things would change here because there are few things more satisfying than working together to achieve a common goal.
