Lighthouse Quilt Guild Quilt Show 2018
The Lighthouse Quilt Guild will host their annual Quilt Show from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.Sunday at the Del Norte County Fairgrounds in Crescent City. DNACA’s 36th Performance Series season tickets
The Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness is excited to announce its 2018-2019 season lineup: Molly Tuttle, award-winning bluegrass guitarist on Oct. 13; Seffarine, Arabic Andalusi and Spanish Flamenco on Nov. 17; Audiopharmacy, indigenous reggae on Jan. 31; Ímar, renowned Scottish Celtic on March 15; and The Sweet Remains, folk rock trio on May 2. All performances begin at 7 p.m. and take place at Crescent Elk Auditorium at 994 G St., Crescent City. Season tickets provide a discount to the five individual performances and are transferable and will be replaced if lost. They are available in Crescent City at Del Norte Office Supply at 240 I St. and in Brookings at Wright’s Custom Framing at 810 Chetco Ave., through Nov. 17. Crescent Harbor Gallery
Coast Redwoods Art Association’s Crescent Harbor Gallery, 140 Marine Way, Artist of the Month for August is Debbie Dean with a collection of her paintings. August’s demo will be led by Wanda Kirkpatrick on Aug. 23 on painting rocks underwater in acrylics. The demo will be preceded by a potluck. The prospectus for the Gallery’s Annual National Juried Art Show, which will be on display Sept. 1-30 with a reception from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. on Sept. 1, is now available. Each entry is $20 with a maximum of three per artist and monetary awards will be given. All two-dimensional media is eligible. They are also displaying artwork at the Del Norte County Library; BJ Clausen and Pauline Lodolini will showcase through September. Saturdays at the gallery include a papier maché program at 1 p.m. Mondays from 10:30 a.m.-4 p.m. offers a space and good company for artists and crafters. For more information, call 707-464-9133.
Manley Art Center and Gallery
The Manley Art Center and Gallery at 433 Oak St. in Brookings will display a collection of work by Sharon Guy titled “Homage to the Gee’s Bend Quilters,” a multi-media show, through Aug. 28. The Gallery is open 11 a.m.-4 p.m.Tuesday through Sunday. Children of all ages are invited to the Center from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturdays to see work created by member artists and work in the classroom. For more information, call 541-469-1807.
Arts in Corrections reading
The Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness invites the public to a free-of-charge reception for the publishing of the creative writing work, “My Brother’s Keeper,” a collection of writings by students in the Arts in Corrections program at Pelican Bay State Prison, a program of the William James Association and partnership with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and the California Arts Council. Teaching artist Cecelia Holland will read an excerpt from the story “Live with What You Did” and provide a question and answer session at 6 p.m. Aug. 29 at the Del Norte County Library at 190 Price Mall. 2nd St Gallery
California Redwoods Art Association’s 2nd St Gallery, 1228 2nd St., Artist of the Month for August is Andrea Mastrangelo with a collection of her sculptures. Through August, an exhibit of photos and graphics of the Sister City trip to Rikuzentakata will also be available for viewing in the Gallery.
The Gallery is also displaying members’ collections throughout the community, including: the Del Norte County Library with Linda Elmore; Sutter Coast Hospital with 14 different artists; and Wild Rivers Community Foundation with Dawn Philips.
Every Wednesday noon-2 p.m. local artist Carol Long teaches oil painting class at the Gallery. Registration is required for all classes. Become a member of the Gallery and spend Saturday afternoons painting and networking from 1-3. The prospectus is now available for their Labor Day Juried Art Show, “Past, Present, and Future” as well as their first Juried Teen Art Show, both of which will hang in the Cultural Center 10:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Sept. 1-3. Each artist may enter up to three original pieces of art and there are three categories: two-dimensional paintings, three-dimensional sculptures, and three-dimensional pottery, jewelry, woodwork, or fabric/textiles. Brian Scott Gallery
Artists of the Month for August at Brian Scott Gallery, 515 Chetco Ave., Brookings, are Kay and Chuck Myer, displaying her watercolors and his photography. The Gallery showcases 25 other artists in ongoing events on a monthly basis and hosts Brown Bag Thursday from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. with live music and discussion about artists in history. North Coast Redwoods Writers’ Conference
The 18th annual North Coast Redwoods Writers’ Conference will take place Sept. 21-22 at College of the Redwoods, Del Norte, 883 W Washington Blvd. Beginning at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 21 will be a panel discussion and readings by Carolyne Wright, Jennifer Brozek, and Rob Carney. Friday’s event is open to the public. Beginning at 8:15 a.m. Sept. 22 the conference will hold 10 workshops with five notable authors and includes continental breakfast and a hot catered lunch. Art in Public Places
The Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness’ Art in Public Places exhibit is titled “A Theme of Three,” a collection of photographs by John Barker. It will be on display through Sept. 27. DNACA’s Art in Public Places exhibits are available for viewing in the Del Norte County Courthouse at 450 H St., Crescent City.
