The search is coming down to screening for a new city manager in Crescent City and applications are now being processed.

On the Crescent City Council agenda for Monday is a closed session regarding the position. Mayor Blake Inscore said Friday the position closed Tuesday and applications are being reviewed.

Interim City Manager Mike Young and Human Resources Director Sunny Valero are screening applications for candidates who meet the qualifications.

Inscore said many applications have been received but it’s uncertain how many were personally submitted rather than forwarded from online employment agencies.

“Hopefully, we will know more Monday,” Inscore said.

The position opened May 8 after the April 11 firing of then-City Manager David Van Dermark, who completed just nine months on the job. In May, the city hired Young at a rate of $75 per hour with a cap of 35 hours per week. Young previously served as city manager from 1973 to 1979 and was the director of public works from 2000 to 2003.
