After a foot chase Friday morning, Crescent City Police arrested a subject wanted by the U.S. Marshal.

Police Chief Ivan Minsal said officers were in the 1200 block of Northcrest Drive on an unrelated matter, when an approaching vehicle stopped and the occupant got out and ran. Officers chased the subject on foot before losing sight of him in a mobile home park.

Del Norte County Sheriff’s deputies and California Highway Patrol personnel arrived to assist.

Minsal said witnesses in the area directed officers to a mobile home, saying the subject had run inside. With permission from the owner, officers went in and arrested Gabriel Munoz, 25.

While trying to determine his identity, officers found that he had a U.S. Marshal’s fugitive warrant for his arrest for leaving a minimum security detention area. Calls to the U.S. Marshalin McKinleyville were not returned as of press time.

Minsal said U.S. Marshals were in Crescent City days before looking for Munoz and had left police with photos to help identify him.

“He looked nothing like he did in the photos,” Minsal said.

As of Friday afternoon, Munoz was being held at Del Norte County Jail awaiting transport to the Bay Area by U.S. Marshals.
