After years of suspension, public tours of the St. George Reef Lighthouse have resumed.
According to the Lighthouse Preservation Society website, the tours will attempt to take 36 people per flight to the lighthouse by helicopter.
While no tours are allowed from May to October, flights are scheduled for Feb. 11, March 11, and April 8. Another is set for Nov. 4 and Jan. 18, 2019 but tours may be canceled due to inclement weather.
“This is one of few offshore lighthouses in the world with public access,” the website states.
The helicopter has four seats and the flight takes about six minutes from the airport to the lighthouse.
Society founder Guy Towers said a group went out to the lighthouse prior to the Feb. 11 tour to do some maintenance and cleaning.
The tour costs $195 per person and information can be found online at https://stgeorgereeflighthouse.weebly.com/
