A Lake Isabella woman and her small dog were OK Sunday evening after her small RV caught fire driving down U.S. 199 near Mile Marker 10.05.
According to Gasquet Fire Chief Nick Karanopoulos, witnesses reported smoke was coming from the rear wheel area of the RV before the driver was able to pull to one side.
Gasquet Fire arrived at the scene about eight minutes after the call. Karanopoulos said the RV was fully involved upon his arrival, but firefighters were able to quickly extinguish it.
While the fire blackened nearby trees, Karanopoulos said it was still too damp for the fire to spread.
According to California Highway Patrol Information Officer Brandy Gonzalez, traffic was blocked for about 30 minutes and then reduced to one-way control for about 90 minutes. The RV was towed from the scene.
