Local teams are getting ready to walk around the clock Friday to raise money for cancer research, patient care and other programs.

This year’s Relay For Life event at the Del Norte High School Track will be more than just a 24-hour relay walk — it’s an event the whole family can come out and enjoy.

Event Lead Chelsea Sanyaolu said this year’s event will feature fun activities for the whole family. Inside a giant tent, catered food will be provided.

After the opening ceremony at 6 p.m., teams of walkers will circle the DNHS track for 24 hours to signify that cancer never sleeps. Teams will set up campsites on the field and continue fundraising during the event.

Sanyaolu said people can come to the event and register as survivors or come for dinner. Staff members will be wearing red shirts.

“A lot of money is raised onsite,” Sanyaolu said, noting many local businesses have also donated to the event.

A team meeting will take place 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Pizza King.
