California Highway Patrol is seeking the public’s help to identify the driver or vehicle involved in a felony hit and run on Lake Earl Drive that took the life of an unidentified woman Sunday night.
According to CHP reports, the woman was bicycling southbound on Lake Earl Drive north of Bay Meadows Road at about 8:49 p.m. when it appeared she was struck by a vehicle. CHP Commander Larry Depee said he saw the bicycle, which he said showed major damage.
The woman died of her injuries at Sutter Coast Hospital. It was determined the other vehicle left the scene before officers arrived.
“We really don’t have a lot to go on,” Depee said.
Depee said an ID was not found on the woman and, as of Monday, no missing person reports had been filed. He said the Del Norte Sheriff’s Office has scheduled an autopsy for Tuesday.
Personnel from the state Department of Justice are assisting with the investigation.
Anyone with information is urged to contact CHP at 707-464 3117.
