While the last of three county supervisor recalls are dead in the water, petitioners have yet to submit signatures for the recall of Crescent City Mayor Pro Tem Heidi Kime.
County Clerk/ Recorder Alissia Northrup said Monday morning she has heard no more from petitioners collecting signatures for the recall of Supervisor Lori Cowan.
“I wouldn’t accept them now if they came in because it’s after the deadline,” she said, “which was Saturday (Aug. 25).
City Clerk Robin Patch said some research led her to find the petition to collect signatures for Kime’s recall was approved July 8, making the 90-day deadline for submission Sept. 8. However, Patch said she also has had no contact with petitioners and has not heard of any activity related to it.
At the Aug. 20 Crescent City Council meeting, the chair of the Del Norte Republican Central Committee, Karen Sanders, read a letter opposing the recall, as it would result in special election costing a minimum of $43,000.
“Therefore, the Del Norte County Republican Central Committee does not support the recall efforts against Mayor Pro Tem Heidi Kime and the use of precious Del Norte County and Crescent City taxpayer funds for a frivolous election,” Sanders said.
