Those with old mattresses collecting dust can take them to the Del Norte Transfer Station on Saturday.
The Del Norte Solid Waste Management Authority is teaming up with the Mattress Recycling Council’s Bye Bye Mattress Program to collect mattresses for recycling on Saturday. According to a press release from the Mattress Recycling Council, the cotton, fiber, steel, wood and foam that make up to 80 percent of the materials in a mattress and box spring can be turned into everyday products such as appliances, carpet padding, biomass fuel and more.
The mattress collection event is 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at the Del Norte Transfer Station, 1700 State St., Crescent City. Bulky items, including furniture, appliances, construction debris and hazardous materials will not be accepted.
