Little information is available regarding a fatal vehicle crash off U.S. 101 at Last Chance Grade Wednesday afternoon. California Highway Patrol Officer Brian Wilson said a northbound SUV went off the road at about mile marker 16 and struck a tree. He said no other vehicles were involved and there were no passengers in the crashed vehicle. When asked, he said roadways were wet, but the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
Sheriff’s Commander Bill Steven said the victim’s next of kin had not been located as of press time. He could only disclose that the decedent was a female subject from Humboldt County.
