After running unopposed in the 2018 general election, Carol Mathews has assumed her second term representing Del Norte County on the College of the Redwoods Board of Trustees.
Mathews, a former faculty member at CR’s Del Norte campus, was sworn in at the college’s board of trustees meeting on Dec. 11, according to a CR press release. Mathews said she will focus on CR’s fiscal stability this year including maximizing revenue and implementing programs and services to improve student success, according to the release.
“We proudly support the new Redwoods Room and Board Scholarship Fund, which provides housing and meals to some of CR’s homeless students,” Mathews said in a written statement. “The college has been committed to our students facing housing and food insecurity. We have opened up our showers and laundry facilities on the Eureka campus and we will have food pantries in Del Norte, Eureka and Hoopa. The Redwoods Scholarship is the next step in providing this critical support.”
Mathews is one of seven trustees on the CR board.
