Del Norte County Sheriff’s investigators said Monday they are still trying to determine if an adult male found dead on the beach over the weekend in Smith River died of natural causes or foul play.
According to sheriff’s Cmdr. Bill Steven, the body was discovered by a female jogger about 10 a.m. Saturday on the beach just west of the cemetery off South Indian Road.
“We’re still trying to make the determination whether (the cause of death) was natural causes or suspicious,” Steven said. “It’s teetering somewhere between right now.”
Steven could not give specific details about the investigation but said investigators have not yet been able to determine the subject’s identity.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Dispatch at 707-464-4191.
