The editor for the Del Norte Triplicate and Curry Coastal Pilot is facing charges of driving under the influence after the California Highway Patrol arrested him in Crescent City on Friday.
Robin Fornoff, 67, faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content greater than 0.08 percent, according to the Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office online information system. Details of the arrest from the CHP were unavailable on Monday due to the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
In an email to Triplicate and Pilot staff Saturday, Fornoff said he attempted to drive home after drinking several beers at a Crescent City pub prior to his arrest.
“I know better. Although no one was physically injured, the damage I have done by my irresponsible actions is monumental. I hope it is not irreparable,” Fornoff wrote. “In being so foolish, I hurt not only myself and my family but more importantly, I have hurt all of you dedicated folks who work so hard to make the Del Norte Triplicate and Curry Coastal Pilot such fine newspapers. For that, I sincerely apologize....”
Fornoff began working as editor-in-chief for the Del Norte Triplicate in August 2015. In November 2017, Fornoff became the regional editor-in-chief for both the Triplicate and the Curry Coastal Pilot.
