The community will be able to tour the area’s only acute rehabilitation center this afternoon.

The Crescent City-Del Norte County Chamber of Commerce will hold its next mixer at the Sutter Coast Hospital Acute Rehabilitation Center, which celebrates its third anniversary. The 10-bed facility helps patients recovering from orthopedic injuries, amputations, strokes, brain injuries and other complex medical conditions, according to a Sutter Health press release.

Since it began operating three years ago, Sutter Coast Acute Rehabilitation Center has helped about 450 residents recover, according to the press release.

The rehabilitation center offers an intensive program in a hospital setting and includes speech, occupational and recreational therapies and medical management, according to the release. The unit also uses a fully-equipped rehab gym, a dedicated indoor therapy area and an outdoor recreational space for patient therapy, according to the release

The closest facility offering the same level of rehabilitative care is in Eureka.

The mixer begins at 5:30 p.m. today at 800 E. Washington Blvd., Crescent City.
